Easy bead patterns for beginners

Easy bead patterns fit on one pegboard and use at most 16 colours. That is the point where you can still keep each colour in its own little bowl and never hunt for the one bead in a shade that looks like three others. Every pattern here follows that rule, not because we guessed but because we count the colours in each pattern. They are made for children placing their first boards, for after-school clubs and birthday parties, and for adults who want something calm to do in the evening. Each pattern downloads as a PDF with Hama colour codes and bead counts per colour, so you can check in advance whether the beads you have at home are enough. Start with a motif that has large, connected colour areas; they are the easiest to place and the nicest to iron. Once the first one is done, move on to the small patterns with more colours, or make your own easy pattern from a picture in the tool with fewer colours switched on.

Questions and answers

What makes a bead pattern easy?

Few colours and large connected areas. On Perleland a pattern is called Easy when it fits on one board and has at most 16 colours, and those are exactly the patterns collected here.

From what age can children do bead patterns?

Most children can place midi beads from age 4–5 with a little help on the first ones. The patterns here with under 10 colours are the easiest to start with.

How do I iron the board without it curling?

Use ironing paper, medium heat without steam, and iron in small circles for 10–20 seconds. Put a book on top while it cools. See the ironing guide further down the page.

Can I make my own easy patterns?

Yes. Pick a picture with few colours in the tool, set the size to one board and turn down the number of colours, and you get a pattern at the same level as these.
